Those of you who know me, know that I have a love-hate relationship with Instagram yoga accounts. Part of me enjoys scrolling through these beautiful, elegant and inspirational images, gazing in absolute awe at the shapes and positions people can bend themselves into. The other part of me feels angry at people for posting these photos. As a Yoga Teacher, I’m all too aware that it’s pictures like these that sexualise the practice and affect people’s self esteem. It’s pictures like these that detract from the true essence of what yoga is all about. It’s pictures like these that make 99% of us think we’re not ‘good’ at yoga.
That being said, I teach the Level 2 yoga class at Yoga Luna and I know that my students need some new challenges. Instagram yogis make everything look effortless, but everyone knows the expectations are far from reality!
During this workshop we’ll be breaking down some of the most impressive and photogenic postures as we attempt to master the art of advanced asanas.
It’s going to be fun and lighthearted and most likely full of some epic fails, but together we’ll explore new movements, shapes and balances that might seem impossible at first, but with the right instruction, are often more accessible than you think.
We’ll be working towards the following postures:
Bound Half Moon
Bird of Paradise
Compass Pose
Variations of Visvamitrasana
Humble Flamingo
This workshop is for anyone who has ever scrolled through Instagram and marvelled at the miraculous positions people post.
This workshop is for all the yogis who are keeping it real and who laugh at themselves when they fall.
This workshop is for anyone interested in trying some advanced asanas in a safe studio space.
It’s not suitable for complete beginners, but you definitely don’t need circus skills to come along! :)
Remember: Practice and all is coming…
Eventually.
Maybe.
